Ever since Andrea announced her engagement, one question began to echo both inside and outside the bridal industry: What would the dress of the daughter of D’Royal Bride’s owners look like?

Expectations were inevitable. For over three decades, the Santiago Díaz family had guided thousands of women through choosing one of the most important garments of their lives. Now had come the moment to dress their own daughter and make her the protagonist of the story her parents had begun so many years ago.

Andrea had access to some of the world’s most renowned designers, but she also had a very defined vision. She dreamed of being a modern princess, inspired by the majesty of the royal weddings of England and Spain: an imposing, delicate, and luminous silhouette with a presence capable of filling the church from the very first moment.

That aesthetic did not suddenly emerge with the engagement. Since her fifteenth birthday, royalty had been part of her personal imagination: her quinceañera celebration was inspired by the gardens of Versailles, and her marriage proposal was also surrounded by monarchical references. The wedding dress naturally had to continue that narrative.

Although she had helped dress thousands of brides, Andrea had never tried on a wedding gown herself. The first time she did so, she was accompanied by a select group of family and friends. She tried on five designs, but that experience confirmed that she wasn't simply looking for a beautiful dress. She needed a creation that represented her personality, her family’s history, and the magnitude of that moment.

The search took a decisive turn during Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, the annual event where the family discovers and selects the collections that later arrive at D’Royal Bride. Andrea had long been following Jaehoon Choi on Instagram—a Korean designer based in Japan whose lavish, architectural, and sparkle-drenched work matched exactly what she was imagining. They had never crossed paths with him during their previous buying trips to New York, Milan, or Barcelona, and the family was even considering traveling to Japan if they didn't find the right piece.

However, in one of the event's lounges, the director recommended that they meet a new designer coming from Japan who wished to present his line to D’Royal Bride. To her surprise, Andrea confirmed it was the exact same creator whose account she had saved for so long.

The dress she had seen on social media was not part of the runway show. It was a limited-edition couture piece reserved as an exhibition display inside the atelier. Rather than closing a door, that setback gave way to a much more meaningful relationship: Andrea and her family explored the complete collection, decided to bring it to Puerto Rico, and Jaehoon Choi became part of the exclusive group of designers represented by D’Royal Bride.

The meeting with the designer took place with the help of a translator. Choi was already familiar with the boutique’s trajectory, followed their work on social media, and enthusiastically embraced the opportunity to craft Andrea's dress. She showed him the image of her dream piece and requested only a few minor modifications that would allow it to be customized without altering the essence of the original creation.

Three months later, the dress arrived from the atelier in Japan. Until that moment, Andrea had only known it through photographs and an initial fabric sample sent to verify the proportions. Seeing it finished made her fitting one of the most eagerly awaited moments of the entire planning process.

The creation brought together an extraordinary work of haute couture: over ten layers of Italian tulle, an illusion-effect corset, and thousands of Swarovski crystals of various sizes, hand-embroidered and hand-placed to produce a shimmer visible from every angle. The princess silhouette was completed with a monumental 3-meter (118-inch) detachable train, designed to lend even greater majesty to her entrance at the ceremony.

The veil was conceived as another standout centerpiece. Stretching over four meters (157 inches), it extended past the train and was crafted with the same Swarovski crystals. It included a delicate blusher layer over the face and personalized embroidery featuring Andrea and Jesús's names, initials, and monogram, turning it into an unrepeatable creation deeply tied to the couple's story.

During the fitting, the alterations team at D’Royal Bride perfected every element: the corset, the drape of the skirt, the length of the train, and the positioning of the veil. That day also served to review the complete wardrobe for the bridal weekend. Andrea tried on and adjusted creations from YolanCris, Milla Nova, Wona Concept, Portia & Scarlett, and Sherri Hill—each one curated for a different moment of the celebration.

In front of the mirror, everything finally began to feel real. The saved images, conversations, travels, and months of waiting transformed into a tangible creation. The woman who for years had helped so many brides find their perfect dress was finally beholding her own.
